Hayden Cooper's journey in college baseball spans an impressive 6 years, during which he showcased his exceptional skills in both Division 1 (University of Tennessee at Martin) and Division 2 (Delta State University) leagues. His stellar performance on the field earned him the prestigious title of Former DCL MVP, a testament to his outstanding contributions to the league. Cooper's talents extended beyond the DCL, as he secured a coveted spot on the All-Summer Team for BCBL. His excellence was further recognized when he was named GCL and Regional Player of the Week while playing at DSU, solidifying his place among the league's elite.

Coach Cooper's dedication to the development of baseball talent extends beyond his playing days. His coaching journey began with impactful contributions to kids' camps, where he shared his knowledge and fostered a love for the sport among aspiring young players. His commitment to the growth of the game is further exemplified by his continuous support in helping teammates refine their swings and understanding of strategic approaches in baseball.

As a player, Hayden Cooper not only excelled in performance but also cultivated invaluable skills that will undoubtedly shape his coaching prowess. His developed leadership skills, both on and off the field, set the foundation for creating a positive and collaborative team environment. With a high-level understanding of the game's intricacies, Coach Cooper brings a strategic and nuanced approach to coaching. Additionally, his proficiency in the weight room underscores the importance of physical conditioning in baseball, a facet he understands at a high level.

MIKE KNUTSON - ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Knutson enters his first season with the Johnson Creek Mapaches of the DCL.

 

Currently serving as the assistant coach at Jefferson High School under Hall of Fame Head Coach Greg Fetherston for the past six seasons, Knutson has been instrumental in guiding the Eagles to back-to-back-to-back State Championship appearances, achieving runner-up finishes in 2021 and 2022. In addition, Knutson is a 6th grade teacher at Jefferson Middle School.

 

Along with coaching duties at the high school level, Knutson works with Jefferson’s Jr. Eagle youth organization coordinating winter workouts and skill development.

 

Knutson spent two seasons 2017 and 2018 as an assistant coach at Viterbo University (NAIA - La Crosse, WI) working primarily with infielders and hitters.

 

He coached 2017 summer with the Springfield Sliders of the Prospect League and 2020 summer with 15U Edge Baseball (Madison, WI). He has also coached prior summers with Jefferson’s legion program and working as an instructor at Brewers Baseball Academy Camps.

 

Knutson, a native of Jefferson, WI, played collegiately at UW-La Crosse and Riverland Community College (Austin, MN). He earned his bachelor’s degree in Communication studies from UW-La Crosse in 2016 followed by his master’s degree in Teaching from Cardinal Stritch University in 2020. 

 

Coach Knutson's diverse coaching background, ranging from youth to collegiate levels, showcases his passion for developing players and fostering a culture of excellence. Knutson looks to make a similar impact in the DCL.
